South Freo – where a cute little cottage emerged from a tight, dark living space to become an airy and light home.
Shorelines Design worked within stringent heritage guidelines to produce an approved plan that was a turning point in the history of this Fremantle cottage.
Over a period of 6 months, Swell Homes extended the cottage, utilising majestic 3.4m high ceilings to secure an ocean view for the upper floor, and the beautiful seabreeze intake of the Fremantle Doctor.
On the northern and eastern faces, Swell Homes were the first builders in Australia to utilise Tontine’s R3.2 batts in the walls for added solar protection. On top of this, we used our own convectional detail to assist in minimising the heat gain load on these exposed walls through Perth’s fierce summer.
With the addition of a new verandah on the western face of the building, the old girl was reborn with her heritage beauty intact, as a modern and comfortable family home.
