The post-war era created homes built for practicality and affordability, but not necessarily for live-ability. The owners of this Wembley family home in the sought-after western suburbs of Perth contacted Swell Homes for our assistance. They needed help to transform the dark and cramped living space of this modest home into something much more modern, energy efficient and attractive.
Our renovation allowed the home to serve how families live today, while meeting the owner’s budget. The new extra height open living space at the rear of the property replaces a low roofed lean-to structure. High, mechanised clerestory windows bring in both natural light and air to ventilate the living and kitchen areas. A new polished concrete slab acts as a passive heat sink, while a feature face brick wall adds urban charm. Glazed sliding doors join the dining zone to outdoor decking, overlooking the lawn.
The central corridor was opened up to create a generous flow from the front to the rear and bring light into the other rooms of the home. A new laundry and bathroom provided stylish utility for the owners, who plan to add to the home as their family grows.
